When you print something at your office for aid in a questionably-off color joke and it doesn't print, don't keep printing and printing thinking the printer is broken. Consider that you are printing to another printer; and you don't know where the fuck that printer is.

I wonder if the person poking around here, http://jeffpalm.com/admin, found what he (or she) was looking for? Maybe these would be of interest, too: read is slightly updated, because it was horribly broken. It's now been tested on TWO sites, the new one being freenyc.net....woohoo.

[ 07:43 AM on June 19, 2008 ]

If I had it my way there would be no caps lock and everything would be in text, but I don't, but read is a Ruby script for displaying and openning RSS feeds in text mode. To use it pass in the name of a site (e.g. reddit.com) or name (e.g. reddit) and you'll get a list of the RSS entries. Then you can choose one to open in an evil browser to read more. Of course it only works on macs. Here's an example:

Hmmmmmmmmm... my server doesn't support command-line ImageMagik tools anymore, so floto is updated so it correctly resizes images using the PHP binding instead of making execs; this is probably a good change for a number of reasons. Again, the source is hosted by the goog here: http://code.google.com/p/floto/ and of course this means that the Lime's photos are working again, too. At the time of writing Emily is showing the boys how it's done at a bar in New Orleans.

Here is a greasemonkey script to hold your position on various pages, and scroll there when you visit. It's is useful to put together a little jukebox of oyur favorite bands who have music on their site. To do it, put your bands bookmarks in the toolbar on the far left, make a pretty small window, and enter a bands site you like that has a flash or other streaming player. Then scroll until you've center this player, and follow the directions above. If you do this for all the bands in this bookmark list, you'll create a little jukebox. Here's a picture from theprids.com.

Here's some code to control itunes from your iphone. I realized I needed this after my powerbook's screen crapped out on a flight from Burbank to San Jose one day, but I still had a lot of music on it. Anyway, it gives you the native interface, sort of. If I ever get appliances and other things that I could control, I hope to control them with my phone. Currently there's the AC, which is unplugged, the stove that has never been turned on, and the fridge. I use my little vaccuum a lot, but controlling it from a phone wouldn't really benefit me. I do have the door buzzer... I could let people in 'remotely'.

search is an updated version of the command-line search plugin search. This will search your Firefox search plugins and allow you to specificy a query on the command line. First, it only works on Macs, since I'm on a mac right now. Secondly, here's how you use it:
  1. If you pass it no arguments, you'll be prompted to choose a search engine and then give search terms, e.g.
    jeff$ ./search
    [1] amazondotcom Amazon.com
    [2] answers Answers.com
    [3] creativecommons Creative Commons
    [4] eBay eBay
    [5] google Google
    [6] yahoo Yahoo
Please choose an engine > 6
    Input search terms> asdf
    Using Yahoo with url 'http://search.yahoo.co...'

    Then you'll do a search for http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&p=asdf%0A.
  2. If you give one argument it is a regular expression describing the search engine, e.g.
    jeff$ ./search yahoo
    Input search terms> asdf
    Using Yahoo with url 'http://search.yahoo.co...'

  3. If you give more than one argument, the first is treated like a regular expression for the search engine and rest are search terms, e.g.
    jeff$ ~/Sites/code/search yahoo asdf
    Using Yahoo with url 'http://search.yahoo.co...'
