Cover letter for Jeffrey Palm ============================= I am interested in exciting projects that involve solving hard problems. I have built and helped build various programming language systems including a programming language environment generator for my undergraduate thesis, AspectJ at Xerox PARC, PUFFIN at the Nasa Ames Research Center, Jikes Research Virtual Machine at IBM Research, and the Concern Manipulation Environment at IBM Research. I am currently (on my own) writing a pure-Java MPEG-4 for mobile phones and (with my company) building the network to support a television network. I am on leave from the PhD program in Computer Science at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. I received my Masters at the University of Colorado and BS in Computer Engineering with highest honors minoring in Math at the University of Florida. My publication and research background is in compilers and programming languages, but my passion is developing systems to make peoples' work/life easier -- be it developers or web surfers. There are huge barriers to break down to make developing for the web and using it as efficient and enjoyable as on PCs, and this will involve solving hard, nasty problems. I want to solve these.
